Communicable Disease Program

Protecting Public Health in Haywood County

The Communicable Disease program at Haywood County Health and Human Services works to safeguard the health of our entire community by monitoring, investigating, and helping control the spread of infectious diseases.

Our team tracks a wide range of illnesses that can affect large portions of the population, including:

  • Foodborne illnesses

  • Influenza

  • Norovirus

  • Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs)

  • Other infectious diseases — including those legally required to be reported

Our Services Include:

Outbreak Alerts and Guidance
We notify the public and local healthcare providers when outbreaks occur, and provide clear, accurate information to help prevent further spread.

Education and Prevention
We offer up-to-date information and resources to both the public and medical professionals to help prevent communicable diseases in our community.

Disease Investigation and Response
Our team investigates reports of infectious disease and takes steps to intervene quickly when outbreaks occur.

Supportive Outpatient Services
We provide care and resources for individuals affected by HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis (TB), and other sexually transmitted infections.

Disease Surveillance
We track and review disease reports from area hospitals, clinics, and laboratories to ensure timely public health response.
