Hears and decides appeals from any decision or determination made by the Watershed Administrator in the enforcement of the Watershed Protection Ordinance.
Authorizes, in specific cases, minor variances from the terms of the Ordinance that will not be contrary to the public interests where, owing to special conditions, a literal enforcement of this Ordinance will result in practical difficulties or unnecessary hardship, so that the spirit of this Ordinance shall be observed, public safety and welfare secured, and substantial justice done.
Institutes any appropriate action or proceeding to restrain, correct, or abate conditions and/or violations that may pose a threat to water quality.
Membership
The Haywood County Commissioners appoint nine members: 3 from Pigeon Valley, 3 from Maggie Valley, 1 from Waynesville, 1 from Canton, and one Commissioner member.
Vacancies are posted to the Haywood County website and sent to the publication sunshine list as they occur. The Watershed Review Board reviews applications and makes appointment recommendations to the Board of County Commissioners.
Five members are appointed to three year terms; four members are appointed to two year terms.
