  9. VIRTUAL PROGRAM: Fun Friday: STEAM Edition - Owl Pellets

    June 25, 2021, 9:00 AM - 9:15 AM @ Waynesville Library

What to see what an owl had for dinner? We can do that by dissecting, or taking apart an owl pellet. Most birds cannot chew their food, and owls are no exception. Owls usually swallow their prey whole. When an owl has eaten its stomach cannot digest the fur, bones, teeth, feathers, and insect shells from their food. All these parts are formed into a little bundle or pellet inside the owl and are later SPIT UP. By dissecting the pellet, you can tell a lot about an owl’s diet. Access to this virtual program will be available beginning June 25 at https://haywoodlibrary.org/696/Virtual-Programming and on the Haywood County YouTube Channel. Owl Pellet Dissection Kits will be available to pick up at the Waynesville and Canton Branch Libraries starting June 25. For more information, email Lisa at lisa.hartzell@haywoodcountync.gov or call 828.356.2511.
