[ARCHIVED] Notice of Public Hearing - Approval of an Economic Development Agreement 4/19/2021

TAKE NOTICE, that the Haywood County Board of Commissioners (“the County Commissioners”) will conduct a public hearing at its regular meeting at 5:30 P.M. on Monday, April 19, 2021 in the Historic Courtroom of the Haywood County Historic Courthouse located at 215 North Main Street, Waynesville, N.C. 28786.

The purpose of the hearing is to consider a proposed Economic Development Agreement with Premier Magnesia, LLC aka Giles Chemical, to approve the award of incentives for economic development purposes by helping stimulate the local economy, provide new taxable capital investment and create new full time employment with health insurance.

Premier Magnesia, LLC has invested $5.0 million to expand their operations and has hired an additional 35 employees.

Haywood County proposes to make appropriations funded by the levy of property taxes pursuant to N.C.G.S. Section 158-7.1 as authorized by N.C.G.S. Section 153A-149 (c) (10b), and to award tax incentives for economic development purposes by granting a reimbursement of 73% of property taxes paid to Haywood County for the five (5) fiscal years as per the Haywood County Economic Development Incentives Program, adopted by the Board of Commissioners on May 18, 2020.

Persons wishing to be heard at the public hearing are asked to be present.  The County Commissioners may adopt reasonable rules governing the conduct of the hearing including (i) fixing the maximum time allotted to each speaker, (ii) providing for the designation of a spokesman for groups of persons supporting or opposing the same position, (iii) providing for the selection of delegates from groups of persons supporting or opposing the same position when the number of persons wishing to attend the hearing exceeds the capacity of the Historic Courtroom, and (iv) providing for the maintenance of order and decorum in the conduct of the hearing.
