Haywood County reports 90th - 93rd COVID-19 deaths
Haywood County Health and Human Services have received notice of four more COVID-19 deaths, bringing the total number now to 93.
Two died in January, but there were delays in receiving the death certificates to confirm COVID involvement.
One was over the age of 90 and had COVID-19 listed as the immediate cause of death, with other underlying causes. The other was between the ages of 75-79 and had COVID-19 listed as a significant condition contributing to death but not resulting in the underlying cause leading to death. Both died at Haywood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
The other two individuals died in late February. Both were between the ages of 75-79. One had COVID-19 pneumonia as the primary cause of death with additional underlying causes, while the other had COVID-19 listed as an underlying cause of death (disease or injury that initiated the events resulting in death). Both died at Haywood Regional Medical Center.
To protect the families’ privacy, no further information about the patients will be released.
“We at Haywood County Health and Human Services extend our deepest sympathies to the families and loved ones during this time of loss,” said Interim Health Director Garron Bradish. “COVID-19 is a serious and sometimes deadly illness. We ask everyone to consider the pain and loss this virus can bring with it and do everything you can to help prevent its spread.”
“We urge everyone to continue to be vigilant about masking and social distancing any time you’re going to be around anyone who doesn’t live in your household. Wash your hands regularly, and stay home if you’re not feeling well,” said Bradish.
