Haywood County Health Director COVID Message for April 14, 2020
April is Stress Awareness Month. It’s probably timely given the amount of stress we all face now. Don’t watch too much TV news these days. It can be anxiety-producing. Focus on what you can control. Get some exercise. Look for ways to help our community.
Stress: The COVID Pandemic has increased stress and anxiety in most of us. There is a fear of catching the disease, concern about the economic impact for families and the potential educational setbacks for children. The list is almost endless. There are ways to manage COVID related stress:
Increase a sense of safety by following good hygiene habits to limit the risk of infection;
Stay connected with family, friends, mentors, clergy via phone, email, text messaging, and video calls;
Cultivate ways to be calmer by practicing slow, steady breathing and muscle relaxation; and finally
Remain hopeful: draw upon your spirituality, those who inspire you, or your personal beliefs and values. (Source VA.GOV)

“Staying at Home”: The social distancing strategy is working. Now is not the time to become complacent. Structure your activities and behavior so we keep our cases and contacts low!
Churches: We need churches and congregations to stay alive and stable during this epidemic to support each other and the community during and after the outbreak. The best way to keep the church strong right now is to practice social distancing and to find alternate ways to minister and worship while protecting the most vulnerable members of the congregation and community.
Contact Tracing: We are working with different agencies for increased testing, contact tracing capacity
