[ARCHIVED] COMMISSIONERS TO ATTEND PUBLIC MEETING REGARDING SPONGY MOTH TREATMENT TUESDAY MARCH 21, 2023

HAYWOOD COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS

TO ATTEND PUBLIC MEETING REGARDING SPONGY MOTH TREATMENT

TUESDAY MARCH 21, 2023

A quorum of the Haywood County Board of Commissioners will be attending an informational public meeting on Tuesday, March 21st 2023 from 6 pm to 7:30 pm in the Historic Courtroom at the Haywood County Historic Courthouse, 215 N. Main Street, Waynesville NC.

The purpose of the meeting is for the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (NCDA&CS) to discuss planned treatment for the invasive spongy moth species in Haywood County. The invasive species has been detected in areas throughout the County, mostly in Cruso.

The meeting is being conducted by Representative Mark Pless and Sara Lalk from the Plant industry Division of the NCDA & CS to review the time frame of the treatment, what the treatment does to the insects, the impact of the insects on the region if left untreated and more.   There will be a Q & A period after the presentation.

There will be no official Haywood County business conducted at this meeting and the Commissioners will not have a role in the presentation.

For questions, please contact the County Manager’s Office at 828.452.6625.

This the 17th day of March, 2023.
