Haywood County Government extends heartfelt appreciation to David Francis, Director of Economic and Community Development, for his 25+ years of dedicated service and congratulates him on his new appointment as President and CEO of the Haywood County Chamber of Commerce. The transition marks a significant milestone in Francis's career, as he embarks on a new chapter in his commitment to advancing economic development and community prosperity within Haywood County.
County Manager Bryant Morehead shared his sentiments, reflecting on Francis's impactful tenure: "I've had the privilege of working with David for nearly six years, and throughout this time, his leadership and vision in economic and community development have been truly remarkable. However, what truly sets David apart is his unwavering commitment to public service, often in roles that go unseen by many. He's the person who tackles any task, regardless of its size. Whether it's his quiet yet crucial contributions to safeguarding our community during the challenges of COVID-19, his hands-on involvement in delivering supplies to those most affected by Tropical Storm Fred, or his efforts to establish support systems for individuals displaced by the closure of the Canton Paper Mill, his genuine care for people and our community shines through in all that he does. "
Haywood County and the Chamber of Commerce have forged a powerful alliance dedicated to fostering economic growth and prosperity within our community. With this steadfast commitment in mind, we are confident that David Francis will seamlessly transition into his new role as President of the Haywood Chamber of Commerce and continue the exceptional work with Haywood County in advancing our shared economic development initiatives.
"It has been an incredible journey serving the wonderful community of Haywood County. I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to have played a role in its growth and development over the past 25 years,” said David Francis. “As I transition into my new role as the President and CEO of the Haywood County Chamber of Commerce, I am thrilled to continue this journey hand in hand with the county government, further strengthening our partnership and collectively contributing to the advancement and prosperity of our beloved county."
"While it's difficult to see him leave his current position within Haywood County Government," expressed Morehead, "I'm eagerly anticipating the opportunity to continue collaborating with him at the Chamber, where together, we can further enhance the quality of life in Haywood County."
Prior to his role as Director of Economic and Community Development, David Francis began his public service journey in Haywood County Schools and later served as the Haywood County Tax Collector. His extensive experience and deep-rooted commitment to public service have been instrumental in shaping the landscape of Haywood County.
David will retire from Haywood County Government and transition to his new role as the President and CEO of the Haywood County Chamber of Commerce in July 2024.
His passion for public service and commitment to community betterment will undoubtedly continue to leave a lasting impact on Haywood County.
