Love spending time outdoors? Is science your favorite subject in school? If so, then Haywood County Soil and Water Conservation District has a summer opportunity for you. Our Youth Environmental Stewardship (YES) Camp is an intensive, two week camp for rising 8th and 9th graders who are passionate about the environment. Each day, campers will participate in activities that will enrich their understanding of water quality, air quality, wildlife, soils, agriculture, conservation and forestry. Most activities are outdoors and are aligned to state science standards. Check out some of the things campers may do during YES Camp in the “Camp Highlights” section below.
Campers will need transportation to and from the Mountain Research Station (Test Farm) each day. Drop-off is 8:30 a.m. and pick-up is 4:30 p.m. The cost of the camp is $50, which covers all transportation, activities and snacks. Scholarships are available upon request (see application). Students will need to bring their lunch each day. Please be advised that students will be traveling by activity bus to various locations in the area each day, campers will be exposed to outdoor elements including moving water, insects and the changing weather, and campers will need proper attire for the activities.
Currently, applications are not being accepted for YES Camp. Check back for information and applications for YES Camp 2021.
