Finance
The Finance Department plays a vital role in Haywood County, managing fiscal activities in accordance with the North Carolina Local Government Budget and Fiscal Control Act (NC G.S. 159). With oversight of funds totaling over eighty million dollars, including the General Fund, Special Revenue Funds, Internal Service Funds, and Capital Project Funds, as well as intergovernmental component unit accounting and reporting, the department ensures responsible fiscal management.
Responsibilities extend to maintaining and reporting accurate financial information, ensuring compliance with County policies and internal controls. The integrity of financial reporting is upheld through a robust system of internal controls, internal audits, and an annual audit conducted by an independent certified public accounting firm.
The Finance Department serves as a resource for other County departments and local taxing entities, including special taxing districts and the Tourism Development Authority. It oversees various functions such as purchasing, payroll, internal auditing, budgeting, and managing payables and receivables. Additionally, the department is dedicated to maintaining assets and planning for the future needs of the County.
